
Javier Hernani

Javier Hernani has over 25 years of experience in the financial and securities markets sector. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME) between 2017 and 2024, leading the company’s strategic transformation and its integration with SIX Group AG. Subsequently, at SIX Group (2020–2024), he was a member of the Executive Committee and headed the global Securities Services unit, the group’s largest division, with operations in more than 50 countries.
Throughout his career, he has driven digitalization and the development of FinTech initiatives, including the application of blockchain to post-trade processes and the incubation of new companies.
Previously, he held the positions of General Manager and Chief Financial Officer at BME, leading, among other milestones, the company’s IPO in 2006. His early career developed at the Bilbao Stock Exchange as Deputy General Manager and at Norbolsa as Chief Financial Officer.
Additionally, he has held various international representation roles, including Chairman of BME Clearing, Chairman of the Ibero-American Federation of Exchanges (FIAB), and board member of ISSA (International Securities Services Association).
